Stowe Australia is a leading electrical and communications installation and service contractor, celebrating 100 years in the electrical service industry. As Australia’s oldest privately owned electrical business, Stowe has a long-standing reputation for excellence in delivering critical infrastructure projects.

Valen Power is proud to have partnered with Stowe Australia to support Telekom Solomons with a reliable and resilient energy storage solution. The contract included the supply of batteries, UPS, rectifier, and solar systems, ensuring uninterrupted power for remote telecommunications sites across the Solomon Islands.

Our purpose, “We exist to power critical infrastructure to keep communities connected, safe, and resilient,” drives our commitment to supporting energy solutions in the Pacific Islands. Using our Discover, Design, Deliver, Support framework, we worked closely with Stowe to implement an energy storage solution tailored for these remote environments.

Challenges

Stowe Australia required a battery solution that was durable, reliable, and capable of operating in remote locations where telecommunications sites depend entirely on solar power and batteries. In these environments, energy storage must provide seamless power reliability, whether as a primary energy source or as backup power during mains grid outages.

The key challenges included:

  1. Delivering a robust battery solution that could withstand the demanding conditions of the Solomon Islands.
  2. Ensuring long operational life with minimal maintenance to support remote sites.
  3. Providing a solution that integrated seamlessly with Telekom Solomons’ solar infrastructure.
  4. Mitigating common battery failure modes such as sulphation, thermal runaway, and capacity degradation.

Solution

Using our Discover, Design, Deliver, Support approach, Valen worked closely with Stowe Australia to assess their needs and recommend the ideal battery solution.

The Valen ENDUROGEL 2V 1000Ah battery was identified as the perfect high-voltage energy storage solution for these remote telecommunications sites.

Technical Features of Valen ENDUROGEL 2V 1000Ah Battery:

  • Deep-cycle gel technology – The thixotropic gel electrolyte immobilizes the acid, preventing stratification and extending battery life.
  • Enhanced cyclic performance – Designed for high-cycle applications with a depth of discharge (DoD) of up to 80%, ensuring longevity in solar applications.
  • Catalyst Life Extender technology – Actively reduces internal gas recombination inefficiencies, minimizing water loss and preventing premature dry-out.
  • Superior temperature tolerance – Optimized for high-temperature environments, making it ideal for remote Pacific Island locations.
  • Heavy-duty plate design – Thick positive plates and grid alloys resist corrosion and extend service life beyond conventional VRLA batteries.
  • Low self-discharge rate – Ensures long shelf life and reliability during periods of low charge cycles.
  • Valve-regulated & maintenance-free – Eliminates the need for frequent servicing, a crucial factor for remote sites with limited access.

Each Telekom Solomons site was individually fitted with Valen ENDUROGEL 2V 1000Ah batteries, custom racking, and necessary accessories to provide a complete, turnkey solution. The system was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing rectifier and UPS setup, ensuring optimal energy management.

Outcome

Since the initial project, Valen has continued to support Stowe Australia across additional telecommunications and UPS backup power projects in the Pacific Islands. Stowe now relies on Valen as their primary supplier for all battery storage needs.

To quote Stowe Australia:
“In all our scope of works and repairs or replacement, we only use batteries by Regal Electro (Valen). After years of supplying these batteries, our clients would not accept batteries from other manufacturers.”

This partnership underscores Valen’s expertise in powering critical infrastructure to ensure communities across the Pacific Islands remain connected, safe, and resilient. Through our ongoing commitment to Discover, Design, Deliver, and Support, we continue to provide tailored, high-performance energy storage solutions where they matter most.
