Client: Western Australia Police Force
Location: Statewide, WA – Project Office: Maylands
Scope: Design and Supply of Stand-Alone Solar Power Systems for Remote Radio Sites
Contract Duration: Initial 2-year contract awarded in 2018, extended for a further 3 years
Delivery: Completed on schedule and within budget
Project Overview
In 2018, Valen Power was engaged by WA Police under a two-year contract to support the upgrade and expansion of their off-grid radio communications infrastructure. The brief was to design and supply standalone solar power systems capable of delivering continuous, autonomous DC power to remote sites critical for statewide emergency communications.
These systems were deployed in some of Western Australia’s most isolated regions, where accessibility is limited, and environmental conditions can be extreme. The power systems needed to operate with high reliability and minimal maintenance, supporting load profiles typical of telemetry, communications repeaters, and network hardware.

Technical Solution
Valen Power engineered a modular off-grid power solution tailored to the requirements of WA Police’s remote radio sites:
- Energy Storage:
Supply of Valen Endurogel VRLA batteries – a robust gel electrolyte design with integrated catalyst life extender to reduce water loss and extend operational life under cyclic load. Ideal for remote installations with limited service intervals. Batteries were deployed in 12V blocks, configured to match site-specific voltage and autonomy requirements. - Solar Generation:
High-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels mounted on custom-configured steel solar frames to withstand local wind load ratings. Panel array sizing was based on solar insolation data, load profiles, and redundancy requirements. - Inverters and Charge Controllers:
Supply of MPPT charge controllers with advanced temperature compensation and data logging, supporting smart charging algorithms tailored to gel chemistry. Inverters selected for each site provided clean, reliable AC output where necessary for auxiliary equipment. - System Integration:
Systems were pre-configured for rapid deployment and integrated with on-site radio equipment. Attention was given to ease of installation, wiring accessibility, and environmental sealing. Equipment enclosures were selected to provide IP-rated protection and thermal management.

Ongoing Support & Inventory Management
Following successful delivery and consistent system performance, Valen was awarded a three-year contract extension. Since 2020, Valen has continued to support the WA Police network through the ongoing supply of Endurogel batteries, technical advice, and supply chain management services.
- Inventory Scheduling:
Valen works closely with the WA Police asset team to forecast site upgrade cycles and deliver scheduled shipments aligned with project timelines. - Strategic Stock Holding:
To mitigate lead time risks, Valen maintains buffer stock of critical components—particularly batteries—based on rolling forecasts and historical consumption data. - Technical Partnership:
Our engineering team provides ongoing support, including system sizing, performance modelling, and assistance with fault diagnosis when required.
