Check the dimensions, not the amp-hours. There is no standard defining front terminal battery case dimensions. It is a de facto industry convention shaped by rack depth and shelf pitch, not a standardised footprint, which means two batteries both described as “12 V 100 Ah front terminal” can differ in length, height, depth, terminal spacing and terminal orientation.
You can see this in Valen’s own range. Four 12 V 100 Ah front terminal batteries measure 395 mm, 398 mm, 400 mm and 507 mm long. Same nominal capacity, four different cases.
Four things to verify before ordering a replacement:
- Case dimensions, against the physical tray, not against the old battery’s datasheet, trays are often modified in the field.
- Terminal type and thread. Most Valen front terminal ranges use an M8 insert. Topin uses an F18 terminal.
- Terminal spacing and polarity orientation. A mirrored polarity layout will not accept the existing inter-tier links.
- The inter-tier link kit itself, which is frequently manufacturer-specific.
We will not claim a “standard front terminal footprint”, because there isn’t one. What we will do is confirm dimensional and terminal compatibility against a named incumbent part number, send us the part number, or a photograph of the label and the tray, and we will tell you whether it fits before you order rather than after.
