What power do remote monitoring, telemetry and control systems need?

Less than people expect, which is why they are well suited to small pre-engineered systems. Typical measured continuous loads: SCADA, RTU and telemetry panels 80–280 W; communications, GRN and PSN repeaters 100–200 W; cameras and access control 50–150 W. At those loads a 5–15 kWh storage system with a modest array delivers days of autonomy. The most useful preparation before an enquiry is to measure the actual 24-hour consumption rather than adding up nameplate ratings, which typically overstates the real load by a wide margin and leads to a system twice the size it needs to be.
