What is a parasitic load, and why does it matter?

The energy the system consumes to run itself before any reaches your load. On a small remote load it can be a large fraction of daily generation, and it is rarely quoted. Ask for total daily parasitic consumption in kWh, and whether quoted usable storage is before or after it.
